How to Select a Trustworthy Agent for a Referral

You have a client who is moving out of state and they are looking for a referral to an agent in their new area who can help them buy a new home. Here are a few steps to finding a trustworthy agent who can take care of your client.

You want to make sure you refer your client to someone who matches their personality and will meet their needs.

Find, Screen, and Refer an Agent

  1. They’re asking you for your advice. And most likely, they like who you are and they trust you. They like your personality. If they’re reaching out to you, you should be looking for someone who is similar to you.
  2. If you are part of a national brand, start there. Share with people who are part of your brand.
    • If you don’t have a national brand. There are online referral networks and Facebook groups that you can reach out to
  3. Once you’ve found someone who fits the bill, don’t just connect your client and the agent. Give that agent a call and do a little reconnaissance. Why are they the best? You want to screen them to get a feel for who they are and if they will fit well with your client. You also want to make sure that you have some rapport with the agent before you refer your client.
  4. Do a soft pass off. Don’t just give the agent your client’s contact info. Introduce them over email, set up a phone call, or in some cases (like a luxury deal) you might want to do an in-person introduction.

In summary, audit your client and know what they are looking for. From there, pick the Realtor that best fits and matches their style.
